Status: Constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary government
Government: Chief of State is the hereditary Emperor.
Bicameral system. The Diet or Kokkai consists of the House of Councillors or Sangi-in (242 seats - members elected for six-year terms; half re-elected every three years; 146 members in multi-seat constituencies and 96 by proportional representation) and the House of Representatives or Shugi-in (480 seats - members elected for four-year terms; 300 in single-seat constituencies; 180 members by proportional representation in 11 regional blocs)

Residency/Working Requirements: Those wishing to obtain permanent residency in Japan should be of good standing, and be able to provide proof that they have means to suport themselves and not put any burden on the state of Japan.   There are over a dozen types of working statuses in Japan - most require a sponsor (employer).  Working visa are usually allocated for 3 years and are extendible.
